MINUTES - The minutes of the previous meeting were agreed to be a correct record.
MATTERS ARISING - Derek Atcheson informed the meeting that he had attended a Council Cabinet meeting on June 15th with John Blundell at which the petition regarding the state of Mantilla Drive was discussed. Derek presented photographic evidence of the poor condition of the road and stated that advice from Brian Redknap, a former City Engineer, indicated that good preparatory work was essential before surface dressing was carried out. The Council Officer from the Highways Dept stated that the inclusion of the surface dressing of Mantilla Drive in the summer/autumn programme of road maintenance was to be considered at a meeting on 20th July. Derek quoted a letter received subsequent to the June meeting in which the Cabinet member, Cllr Harvard, had recommended consideration of inclusion in the upcoming road programme. Derek said that the extensive work done a week after the June meeting had not been mentioned but welcome nonetheless. The Local Police Team was not present but assumption made that the Team was busy at the Memorial Park event taking place over the following days. No follow up had been received regarding the b-b-q fires in the park or the powers and responsibilities of PCSOs, Derek will e-mail Sgt Mick Parton. John Archer, Derek Atcheson, Cllr Blundell and several members of the Association had attended 2 Council meetings in June at which the expansion of Grange Farm School was discussed. The first meeting of the Cabinet Advice panel on 8th June listened to our submissions and questioned the Council Officers over the proposals. The Panel voted 5-3 to recommend that the proposals be accepted by the full Cabinet meeting. The full Cabinet meeting on 15th June exceptionally allowed representations by John Archer and Karamjit Singh to be heard. However, the Cabinet voted to proceed with the expansion plans but subject to close consultation with residents. Mr Singh said he had no news on a request for sight of design proposals put forward by the school or Council, or on figures relating to number of children attending schools in the area. John said that he and Derek had met with Ben Whelan, Headteacher and Cllr Blundell before the Association meeting and had agreed to set up lines of communication with a joint working group. Derek said that the Association had offered its organisation to communicate information in a fair and open way to residents. (Click page link below for second page)
