MINUTES OF STYVECHALE GRANGE RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION
LOCATION         Grange Farm Primary School
DATE                   1st December 2011
PRESENT          John Archer - Chairman
                             Councillor John Blundell
                             Councillor Gary Crookes
Plus 16 Members of the Association      Minutes taken by Sue Corden and Sheila Weare
WELCOME - John A thanked everyone for attending but added that we also need to attract younger members (who may be willing to help with collecting subscriptions next year?). John stressed the importance of the Association in reaching out to our neighbours on Styvechale Grange and perhaps also filling the gap left by cut back Council amenities.
APOLOGIES - Derek Atcheson, Adrian Burr, Pauline & Don Carson, Mick Fitzpatrick, Rosemary Griffiths, Karamjit Singh
MINUTES - It was stated from the floor that Robins & Day were not working at night as the last minutes suggested and they were indeed exemplary contractors. However, the comment made at the last meeting was one made by a resident and passed on through the Chair. With reference to the Village Green status, Councillor Gary Crookes "understands" (rather than "advised") that the land is owned by us and held in trust by Coventry City Council. The minutes of the last meeting were then accepted as a correct record.
MATTERS ARISING - John A & Mick Fitzpatrick had located 10 litter bins on the Grange and a map showing them had been emailed to David Hearne. The lamps on the corner of Dewsbury and Hexworthy are now all working and also the light in the dog leg between Alpine and the A45. The overhang of trees in the dog leg had been addressed and the situation was much improved. John A had contacted Syd Feegrade, Chairman of Friends of the Memorial Park, reference naming of trees on the Grange and he understood that Tim Rose would help with tree identification. Labels are £2.50 per tree, however groups of same trees would only require one label. John A will ascertain number of trees and the total cost. John A has purchased a "charity" rose in the name of the Association as part of a project in the Memorial Park. Bus routes are currently in a consultative period with Centro and a decision has been delayed until the end of February 2012 due to the disruption in the city centre. John A has not heard anything further from Brian Redknap about the pavement renovation programme, in the meantime we can report any trip hazard - of about 1/2". All pavements will be inspected within the next 2 years. Sue Corden commented on the path leading to the Church hall but it was unknown whether this was private or Council owned land. 5 areas of green on Styvechale Grange had been discounted for further development as being an unacceptable loss of public open space. However, the area of land outside Grange Farm School still requires clarification of title and this is being looked into by Karamjit Singh. Martin Vickery had responded to Angela White's comments regarding contractors' vehicles blocking Dewsbury Avenue, by suggesting that they could be parked on the grass outside the school. This rather unhelpful comment was not well received by the residents.
